Blackberry dumplings are a southern dessert favorite! They’re cooked in a simmering blackberry sauce and the combination is mouthwateringly delicious.
Blackberry dumplings are the perfect way to use the bounty of fresh blackberries available in the summertime.
They can be eaten when hot or cold and are delightful when served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped topping.
●1 quart fresh blackberries.
●2 cups white sugar.
●2 cups all-purpose flour.
●2 cups water.
●1/4 cup shortening.
●1/4 cup milk.
●1 large egg yolk.
●2 tbsp softened butter.
●1 tsp cinnamon powder.
●1 tsp salt.
STEP I – In a large saucepan, place blackberries, water, butter, cinnamon powder, and sugar. Cook over medium heat until form a sauce. Stir occasionally.
STEP-II – In a mixing bowl, whisk the flour and salt. Add shortening, egg yolk, and milk. Mix until the flour mixture is moistened
STEP III – Divide the dough in half and shape into small balls, then drop them into the blackberries sauce.
STEP IV – Simmer the dumplings over medium heat for 10 to 12 minutes.
STEP V – Remove the dumplings and let them cool completely. Then serve with vanilla ice cream.
