Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy
An easy-to-make classic featuring hamburger “steaks” dipped in broth and onions.
Traditionally served with hot white rice or potatoes, it’s a great way to garnish a pound of ground beef and probably have all the ingredients on hand!
This hamburger steak is fried in the skillet on the stove and dipped in a thick brown broth with onions. Learn the simple, chef-inspired secret behind making juicy, restaurant-quality meat patties!
This is the perfect easy dinner for when you want something more fancy than burgers, but are more casual than steak.
I used to struggle with what I could make for dinner with ground beef that the whole family loved. This does the trick every time!
I even learned a chef-inspired secret about extra-juicy pancakes (nobody likes brick meat!).
I approached it differently than I would if I were to make meatloaf, diced meat, or Salisbury steak, because I wanted it to be true to its name: “hamburger” steak. Read on!
Ingredients:
➤1lb. ground beef
➤1 egg
➤1/3 cup bread crumbs
➤1/2tsp. black pepper
➤1 tsp. salt
➤1/2 tsp. onion powder
➤1 clove garlic minced
➤1tsp. Worcestershire sauce
➤1tbsp. oil
➤1 1/2 cup thinly sliced onion
➤2tbsp. all-purpose flour
➤1 cup beef broth
➤1/2tsp. salt
Directions :
1-In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce.
2-Form into thick patties.
3-Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
4-Fry the patties and onion in the oil until patties are nicely browned.
5-Remove the beef patties to a plate, and keep warm.
6-Sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet. Stir in flour with a fork, scraping bits of beef off of the bottom as you stir.
7-Gradually mix in the beef broth. Season with seasoned salt, Simmer and stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until the gravy thickens. Turn heat to low, return patties to the gravy, cover, and simmer for another 15 minutes.
