SUGAR DONUTS
A donut or donut (/ˈdoʊnət/) is a type of food made from fermented fried dough.275 It is popular in many countries and prepared in various forms as a dessert that can be made at home or purchased as a snack at bakeries, supermarkets, food stalls, and certified specialty suppliers.
Donut is the traditional spelling, while donut is the simplified version; The terms are often used interchangeably.
Donuts are usually deep fried from flour dough, but other types of dough can also be used. Different additives and flavors are used for different types, such as sugar, chocolate or maple glaze.
Donuts may also include water, fermentation, eggs, milk, sugar, oil, margarine, and natural or artificial flavors.
The two most common types are ring donuts and stuffed donuts, which are injected with fruit preserves (jelly candy), cream, custard, or other sweet fillings.
Small pieces of dough are sometimes cooked as donut holes. Once the donuts are fried, they can be glazed with icing sugar, brushed with icing or chocolate, or covered with powdered sugar, cinnamon, sprinkles, or fruit.
Other shapes include spheres, flat balls, buckles, and other shapes. Donuts are also divided into donuts (including old-fashioned donuts) and yeast-type donuts. Cakes are often accompanied by coffee or milk.
They are sold in cake shops, convenience stores, petrol/gas stations, coffee shops or fast food restaurants.
INGREDIENTS
●150 ml (2/3 cup) lukewarm milk
●3 g (1 tsp) dry yeast
●750 g (6 cups) all-purpose flour
●2 eggs
●120 g (1/2 cup) sugar
●300 g boiled potatoes
●80g (5 tbsp) melted butter
●2 g (1 tsp) lemon zest
●Vegetable oil (for frying)
●Sugar (for coating)
METHOD
In a bowl mix milk with dry yeast, set aside.
In another bowl combine flour, boiled potatoes, and sugar, mix well.
Add eggs, yeast mixture, and stir to combine.
Add lemon zest and melted butter and continue to knead the dough with your hands until you receive an elastic dough.
Form the dough into a ball, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 3 hours.
Transfer the dough onto a working surface and roll with a pin. Use a bowl to cut out circles 8-9cm in diameter and some smaller bowl or a glass to cut out the donut hole.
Place each donut onto a piece of baking paper and let rest for 1 hour.
Fry donuts in hot oil for 2-3 minutes per side.
Coat in sugar and serve.
