Classic Pot Roast Recipe: A Comfort Food Favorite

Pot roast is a quintessential comfort food that has been a family favorite for generations. It’s a dish that is simple to make, yet yields a hearty and flavorful meal. This classic pot roast recipe is the perfect dish for a cozy Sunday dinner with your loved ones.

➤ WHAT YOU’LL NEED :

● 3-4 lb beef chuck roast

● 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

● 1 large onion, chopped

● 4 garlic cloves, minced

● 4 cups beef broth

● 2 cups red wine

● 4 carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces

● 4 celery stalks, cut into 1-inch pieces

● 2 bay leaves

● 1 tablespoon dried thyme

● Salt and pepper to taste

➤ DIRECTIONS :

STEP 1:

Preheat your oven to 350°F.

STEP 2:

In a large Dutch oven or a heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Season the beef chuck roast with salt and pepper.

STEP 3:

Once the oil is hot, add the beef to the pot and sear it on all sides until it’s browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the beef from the pot and set it aside on a plate.

STEP 4 :

Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot and sauté until they are softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

STEP 5:

Pour in the beef broth and red wine, scraping the bottom of the pot to release any browned bits. Add the bay leaves and dried thyme, and bring the mixture to a simmer.

STEP 6:

Return the seared beef to the pot, and add the chopped carrots and celery around the sides of the beef.

STEP 7:

Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and transfer it to the preheated oven. Cook for about 3-4 hours, or until the beef is tender and can be easily pulled apart with a fork.

STEP 8:

Remove the pot from the oven and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes before serving.

STEP 9:

To serve, transfer the beef to a serving platter and spoon the vegetables and sauce over the top. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.

➤Tips:

— For a richer flavor, use a good quality red wine that you would enjoy drinking.

— You can also add other vegetables like potatoes, parsnips, or turnips to the pot for added flavor and texture.

— Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or frozen for up to 2-3 months.

In conclusion, this classic pot roast recipe is a delicious and comforting meal that is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion. With just a few simple ingredients and some time in the oven, you can create a flavorful and satisfying meal that will warm your heart and soul.
